Kirrane Aquatics Center Closed for Capital Renovations: 4/15 - (extended) 5/2

The Department of Recreation is pleased to announce that the Kirrane Aquatics Center will be undergoing a capital renovation beginning Saturday, April 15. The work will be conducted in three parts: part one will consist of basement concrete and structural repairs; part 2 will consist of partial locker room renovations and pool deck and pool well tile repairs (this part will also force the closure of the facility beginning on Saturday, April 15 through Tuesday, May 2 to complete the repairs); and, part 3 will consist of wrapping up the locker room renovations as well as completing the lobby and office re-configuration. The project is expected to be complete in early June.

We understand large projects like this can be an inconvenience and apologize in advance. We will do everything we can to be sure that the work is completed thoroughly and efficiently and on schedule. If you have any questions about the project, please call Jesse Myott, Project Manager, at (617) 730-2069. We’ll see you again in May!

The Evelyn Kirrane Aquatics Center capital improvement project is well underway and moving forward nicely. While staff had planned to open the facility again on Monday, May 1, we thought it better to remain closed and re-open Wednesday, May 3. This is not due to any significant delays with construction, but rather us wanting to have the facility in the most presentable manner for our users as possible. These two extra days will give staff the chance to complete thorough cleanings of all of the pools and deck area – major work being undertaken by staff outside of the capital work currently underway – and to prepare the facility to be as accommodating as possible during the remainder of construction. Again, we apologize for the delay in re-opening, but feel you will return to a much better facility by doing so.

We are excited to get your pool back to you and appreciate your patience and understanding.
